# TabMate > TabMate is a browser extension that gives solo researchers, founders, students, and knowledge workers a research workspace directly in their browser. It combines an AI assistant grounded in the current page with persistent, workspace-scoped memory so that browser research does not start from scratch every session. TabMate is not a tab manager, not a generic AI sidebar, and not a second-brain app. Its category is: **AI-powered browser research workspace with built-in page-action agent**. ## What TabMate does - Lets you ask questions about the page you are currently reading, with the page content already in context — no copy-paste required. - Lets you select text on any page to bring it directly into the AI context as a grounded excerpt. - Saves notes, excerpts, answers, and follow-up ideas inside a persistent workspace so the research thread is usable in future sessions. - Recalls relevant saved memories when you ask a new question, so context carries forward without loading everything at once. - Keeps different projects separated using workspaces — memory and conversations stay scoped per project. - Suggests memory candidates after each response so you decide what to keep, without automatic saving. - Supports pins for temporary holds on excerpts you want active across multiple turns. - Tracks an internal state layer (running notebook) so the assistant can stay aligned as multi-tab work evolves. ### Agent mode and page actions - Performs multi-step page actions automatically on the current tab: click, fill, scroll, extract, highlight, hover, select, expand, submit, keypress, check, uncheck, and more. - Chains multiple low-risk and medium-risk actions together in sequence when a task requires it. - Verifies each action outcome before proceeding to the next step, using both deterministic checks and LLM-powered verification. - Detects destructive or high-impact targets (deletion, payment, account mutation, irreversible confirmation) and pauses the chain for explicit user approval before proceeding. - Guarded actions like form submissions always require user approval. The agent never submits a form without asking first. - Stops automatically when it encounters ambiguity, low confidence, unexpected navigation, or a verification mismatch. - Re-plans from updated page state after each action rather than blindly repeating steps. - Includes a retry budget for transient failures and re-orientation after page context changes. ## Who it is for - **Solo founders** researching ideas, competitors, and launch angles across many tabs. - **Product marketers** comparing competitors, collecting customer language, and turning research into positioning notes. - **Students and academic researchers** keeping sources, notes, highlights, and comparisons organized while working through papers and articles. - **Educators** collecting source material, planning lessons, and drafting quiz ideas tied to the pages they came from. - **General researchers** whose work cuts across many pages and needs usable, organized output rather than more tabs. ## Core differentiators vs other browser AI tools - **Page-grounded by default**: Every question is answered using the page and selection you have in front of you, not a generic web search. - **Workspace-scoped memory**: Memories, prompts, and conversations stay inside their workspace. Different projects do not bleed into each other. - **Inspectable and controllable memory**: You can view, pin, delete, and manage every memory item. Nothing is saved without your review. - **Cross-tab continuity**: Move from tab to tab and the conversation continues with the right saved context, not a cold start. - **Built-in page-action agent**: Unlike passive AI sidebars, TabMate can act on the page — clicking, filling, scrolling, and extracting — with guardrails, verification, and approval controls baked in. - **Not a tab manager**: TabMate does not save, restore, or organize browser tab sessions. That is a different problem. OneTab, Session Buddy, and Workona solve tab organization. TabMate solves research continuity and page-grounded AI. ## Memory types - **Fact** — specific information that expires after 180 days if unused. - **Snippet** — verbatim text preserved as-is; expires after 60 days if unused. - **Summary** — condensed version of a longer source; expires after 60 days if unused. - **Preference** — how you like work done; never expires, always active. - **Instruction** — persistent rules for the assistant; never expires, always active. Facts, snippets, and summaries are recalled by relevance. Preferences and instructions are always active regardless of topic. ## Plans - **Free** — 250 credits/month, Lite AI mode only. No credit card required. - **Solo** — ₹449/month (~$5.40), 1,250 credits/month, Lite and Balanced modes. - **Duo** — ₹949/month (~$11.40), 2,500 credits/month, Lite and Balanced modes. - **Pro** — ₹2,449/month (~$29.40), 4,500 credits/month, all modes including Strong. - **Enterprise** — ₹4,949/month (~$59.40), 7,500 credits/month, all modes, 5 reasoning modes. It does not run in the background, does not scan browsing history, and does not access other open tabs unless you switch to them and use the panel there. Workspace data is stored on EU-based servers. Conversation turns are processed via LLM API and not retained beyond the session. Users can delete any memory, note, or excerpt at any time, and can delete their full account and all data from account settings.
